Why does the food in my refrigerator taste bad?
An insufficient supply of Freon indicates that there is a leak in the system. If the leak is not repaired, the Freon gas will continue to leak. Freon (R-12) is a hazardous gas and inhaling the gas can cause respiratory difficulty, burns, brain damage, or even death.
If you inhale or ingest refrigerant of any kind, seek immediate emergency medical assistance. The dangers of refrigerant poisoning are serious. Freon, which is often used in refrigerants and coolants, is colorless and smells like freshly cut grass.
This is caused by the new plastic lines supplying water to the ice maker. You can quickly resolve this issue by flushing the lines to remove any impurities and get rid of the unpleasant taste.
Why does everything in my fridge taste like plastic?
To tell if your refrigerator needs more Freon, simply unplug the refrigerator, turn off the temperature control and place your ear on the side of the unit. A hissing or gurgling sound indicates that Freon is present. However if you hear nothing it’s likely that your fridge may be low on Freon.
Freon is a tasteless, mostly odorless gas. When it is deeply inhaled, it can cut off vital oxygen to your cells and lungs. Limited exposure — for example, a spill on your skin or breathing near an open container — is only mildly harmful. Inhaling refrigerant fumes on purpose to “get high” can be very dangerous.
