Mr. Pendanski tries to build up the campers by giving routine pep talks; he tells them they are special and that they have a future. He tells the campers that he respects them, and refuses to call most by their camp nickname, and chooses to use their given names.
Rex “X-Ray” Washburn is a camper at Camp Green Lake. He is portrayed by Brendan Jefferson in the film.
Mr. Pendanski is the Tent D counselor. He’s relatively young and wears a buzz cut, but he also has a thick curly beard. The Tent D boys refer to him as “Mom,” which he allows.

Camp Green Lake doesn’t have fences because it is the only place for 100 miles that has water. If you ran away, you would die of thirst. The one big rule at Camp Green Lake is don’t upset the warden.

Stanley doesn’t realize at first that he is the Caveman. His friends have given him this name to make him seem so tough to the Lump that the Lump won’t want to fight with him. The name “Caveman” denotes someone who is tough and uses his fists to get what he wants.
His mother appreciates Stanley’s attempts to make it seem like he’s at a real summer camp, as it makes her feel like a much wealthier parent.

Pendanski. Mr. Pendanski is in charge of tent D, Stanley’s tent at Camp Green Lake. He seems to be friendly but really he is just as mean as the Warden and Mr.
As they continue to dig Zigzag knocks Stanley in the head with a shovel, cutting a gash near his ear. Zigzag is not apologetic, in fact, he even makes Stanley dig out the dirt that had been on Stanley’s shovel when he was hit.
In general, X-Ray is good at reading people and situations. This is especially true when it comes to his ability to handle adults. Consequently, X-Ray has a wonderful ability to defuse potentially heated situations, and that often protects the other boys from the Warden and the counselors.
4) Why does it seem to Stanley as though Zero has x-ray vision? Stanley thought it was as though Zero had x-ray vision because he seemed to look through Stanley and know that Stanley hadn’t stolen the sneakers.
At the end of the novel as Stanley and Zero return to Camp Green Lake after surviving the desert and finding the buried treasure, the narrator describes X-Ray as withdrawn while the other boys show their happiness for Stanley and Zero. He can’t move beyond his anger and jealousy to show happiness for someone else.
After Stanley finds a fossil while digging, X-Ray attempts to persuade him to give him the next object Stanley finds, so X-Ray can get a day off from digging.
Where does the “X” in “X-ray” come from? The answer is that a German physicist, Wilhelm Roentgen, discovered a new form of radiation in 1895. He called it X-radiation because he didn’t know what it was. This mysterious radiation had the ability to pass through many materials that absorb visible light.
