What is the significance of Snape being the Half-Blood Prince?
After Snape’s death, Harry Potter ensured that his portrait remained at Hogwarts, honouring him as a hero, despite their significant personal differences. In addition, Harry later named his second son Albus Severus Potter in honour of Dumbledore and Severus, both of whom were an inspiration in Harry’s life after the Battle of Hogwarts.
Severus Snape is a fictional character in J. K. Rowling ‘s Harry Potter series. He is an exceptionally skilled wizard whose sarcastic, controlled exterior conceals deep emotions and anguish. A Professor at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Snape is hostile to Harry due to his resemblance to his father James Potter.
In Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, the fifteen-year-old Snape (portrayed by Alec Hopkins) makes a brief appearance in a flashback to Snape’s youth. In the final film, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, the younger Snape, perhaps ten or eleven, is played by Benedict Clarke.
Snape’s character becomes more layered and enigmatic as the series progresses, and a central mystery concerns his loyalties. Snape dies at the hands of Lord Voldemort in the seventh book, at which time his back story is revealed.
Tom Riddle has a witch mother and a Muggle father, making him a half-blood wizard. But as Lord Voldemort, his ideology is centered around the superiority of “pure-blood” wizards, and his desire to rid the world of Muggle-born wizards and half-bloods like himself.
Although James disliked and bullied Snape, in the end, James never wanted Snape dead despite his distaste of him and risked his life to save Snape’s when Sirius played a potentially lethal prank on him by sending him to the Shrieking Shack when Remus Lupin was there transforming.
Snape was born to witch Eileen Prince and Muggle Tobias Snape, making him a half-blood, so he got the name, “Half-Blood Prince”. As mentioned in the previous novel, this is unusual for a Death Eater, though Voldemort himself had a Muggle father.
