What can I do with used latex balloons?
Latex balloons can be reinflated. No matter how big or beautiful they are, all helium filled balloon eventually lose their lift. But all balloons can be reinflated if the balloon itself is undamaged.
Latex-free balloons come in the form of Mylar Balloons also referred to as foil balloons, often seen in the shape of stars, hearts, and circles and with many different holiday prints including happy birthday balloons. They are made of metalised plastic film. They are a latex-free school.
Whilst latex balloons are 100% biodegradable, they must still be disposed of with household or commercial waste where they will decompose in landfill. Reuse Foil (Mylar) balloons where possible. Once finished with, deflate and cut the balloons and ribbons into small pieces and put in the bin.
What’s the difference between foil and latex balloons?
Mylar balloons are often referred to as “foil” balloons. They feature an airtight material that helps keep helium gas from escaping. Because the material is nonporous, a Mylar balloon holds its shape longer than a latex balloon, which typically deflates in 24 to 48 hours.
Some balloons are used for decorative purposes or entertaining purposes, while others are used for practical purposes such as meteorology, medical treatment, military defense, or transportation. A balloon’s properties, including its low density and low cost, have led to a wide range of applications.
