In the novel, The Outsiders, Ponyboy describes family as those who know you best…. the people who would do anything for you. Or I could have gotten one of the gang to come along, one of the four boys Darry and Soda and I have grown up with and consider family.
Ponyboy apparently does not feel he has a reason to write much about his parents, who died eight months earlier and so do not appear in the story. Darry has been taking care of the family ever since their parents’ deaths, and he definitely struggles with the responsibility.
