Is metal are malleable?
A malleable material is one in which a thin sheet can be easily formed by hammering . Gold is the most malleable metal. In contrast, ductility is the ability of a solid material to deform under tensile stress.
Gold, silver and platinum are the most malleable and ductile metals. Gold, however, is the most malleable and ductile. Gold can be flattened into gold leaf which is a few atoms thick…4–5 millionths of an inch.
Metals are good conductors of electricity and heat, because the free electrons carry a charge or heat energy through the metal. The free electrons allow metal atoms to slide over each other, so metals are malleable and ductile.
The primary reason why tempered metal alloys are more malleable than other materials is attributed to the energy transferred to the moving electrons. Metals can be described as malleable because of the metal’s ability to be beaten into smaller components of sheets as well as the characteristics of the metal being ductile.
Thus solid metals are not made of molecules.

A few examples of the most malleable metals are silver, aluminium, tin, platinum, zinc, iron, lead, copper, nickel and gold. Among these, gold is said to be more malleable. Metals are described as malleable (can be beaten into sheets) and ductile (can be pulled out into wires). This is because of the ability of the atoms to roll over each other into new positions without breaking the metallic bond.
Certain metals like zinc, arsenic, mercury, antimony are non – malleable in nature.
