In 1992 with Mark Lowry, he co-wrote the song “Mary, Did You Know?” The song has become a Christmas standard and has been recorded by Kenny Rogers, Natalie Cole, Reba McEntire, Gary Chapman and Kathleen Battle.
He has written the music for many songs and also co-wrote the Christmas song ” Mary, Did You Know? ” with Mark Lowry; Greene also wrote “Recovering Pharisee” recorded by Del McCoury, and “He Is” recorded by Ashley Cleveland. He is considered a harmonica legend by many, and once played a classical harmonica medley at Carnegie Hall .

Buddy Wray Greene, 73, of Mt. Nebo, West Virginia passed away on Sunday, January 15, 2017. He was born in Nicholas County, VA on January 31, 1943 to Virginia Bare Greene and the late Robert L. Greene. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Ann Kamp.

Songwriter Mark Lowry had written the words to “Mary, Did You Know?” in 1984 as part of the script for a church Christmas play. For years Lowry looked for the right musical setting, without success.
Buddy Greene (born October 30, 1953) is an American singer, songwriter, guitar player and harmonica player. Most of his recordings consist of gospel music with a distinctly Southern gospel flavor.
I use and endorse Hohner harmonicas. The diatonic models I use include: Golden Melody, Marine Band, and Meisterklasse, and one Special 20 that’s been factory tuned to a D harmonic minor (used on “Bubba, The Wandering Gypsy”, Harmonica Anthology).
Buddy and his wife, Vicki, live in Brentwood, TN and have two daughters.
