A nice way to make money is to explore some dungeons and caves. Many have several items that you can sell, and gold lying around or locked in chests. Make and sell potions. This not only increases your Alchemy skill, but also nets you a nice profit.
You can purchase a house in Anvil for 5,000 septims. Velwyn Benirus will sell it to you, though he acts suspicious in doing so. The first thing you will want to do, in the Benirus Manor, is sleep. Upon waking up, you will be greeted by three ghosts, and start the quest “Where Spirits Have Lease”.
How do you open the portal in Benirus Manor?
Make sure you bring the scrap from the diary with you, to convince him that he’s the only one that can open the secret door in the manor. Ask around Anvil and you’ll be sent back to The Count’s Arms. Speak with the bartender and he’ll tell you that Velwyn went to The Imperial City.
