How to Apply for an Identity Protection PIN
Once taxpayers have authenticated their identities, their 2021 IP PIN immediately will be revealed to them. An IP PIN received online must be used for e-filing a 2020 tax return, if not already filed. The IP PIN is valid for one calendar year.
To get an IP PIN that is lost, forgotten, or never arrived in a CP01A Notice, use the IP PIN request portal at IRS.gov. If you can’t access your IP PIN online, call (800) 908-4490 for help getting your IP PIN reissued.
