Does Daisy know about Myrtle and Tom?
Why did Daisy and Tom stay together?
Is Nick Carraway in love with Daisy?
Daisy may not love Tom as much as Gatsby, but she cannot bear the thought of living in the low class world of “new money”. So, she chooses the world she knows (Tom) over the world of new money (Gatsby).
Gatsby tells Tom that Daisy is in love with him and she only married Tom because he was wealthy. Daisy cannot say she has never loved Tom. Gatsby says she is leaving Tom for him. Tom realises that it was Gatsby’s car that struck and killed Myrtle.
Tom Buchanan
A few months before the beginning of the novel in 1922, she begins an affair with Tom Buchanan, her first affair (2.117). She sees the affair as a way out of her marriage, but Tom sees her as just another disposable mistress, leaving her desperate and vulnerable once George finds out about the affair.
Who does Daisy cheat with in The Great Gatsby?
Daisy, who doesn’t know Myrtle, is driving the car when it strikes Myrtle down; Daisy doesn’t even stop to see what happened, and escapes without consequences. The lower class characters – Gatsby, Myrtle, and George – are thus essentially sacrificed for the moral failings of the upper class characters of Tom and Daisy.
