Do frozen tamales go bad?
If your tamale is frozen, place it on a microwave-safe plate in the husk, cover it with a bowl or splatter guard, and heat on medium or 50% for 3 minutes. This will defrost your tamale. Flip it over and continue cooking at a medium level for another 2 minutes, which will thoroughly heat your tamale.
And yes, they freeze well. I do recommend you thaw them, or wrap the frozen tamales in wet (not damp… I also highly recommend the Del Real chicken and pork tamales (also at Costco for the same price/count).
When freezing tamales, they are most commonly frozen once cooked. It is better to freeze cooked tamales, as uncooked fillings could change flavor and texture when frozen, so freezing tamales after they have been cooked does save more of the flavor, texture, and quality.
If you prefer to make your masa in advance, you can freeze it easily without compromising the quality. As long as it’s carefully packaged, masa will stay fresh in your freezer for 3 to 6 months. Beyond that, the quality and flavor will start to deteriorate.
Because it takes so long to make homemade tamales, making a very large batch and freezing most of it will help you to get the most out of the time you put into making tamales. When properly frozen, homemade tamales will keep for 6 months and taste nearly as good as they did when they were freshly made.

When your tamales arrive, if they are not frozen, they can be refrozen or refrigerated. In the vacuum-sealed bags, they can stay in the freezer 12+ months and in the refrigerator for 3 weeks.
If placed in an airtight container, or wrapped tightly in plastic wrap and placed in a freezer bag, tamales can be kept in the freezer for up to six months. While they will still be fine to eat after this, the quality and taste of the tamales will begin to decline and they just will not taste as good as they should.
A: Masa Batida or mixed masa for tamales must be refrigerated sine it does not have preservatives. Place in a bowl or other container and do not cover! The masa must be able to breathe. It will keep for up to two days in the refrigerator or can be frozen.
Storing Uncooked Tamales Uncooked tamales can keep for 4 days to a week in the refrigerator, just like cooked tamales. However, if they contain meat, it’s better not to wait that long and cook them 48 hours after making. Uncooked tamales can also be frozen, and will last six months.
Absolutely! Cooked tamales can be placed in the fridge for up to one week or freezer for a couple of months. The reheating process is the same as if they were uncooked especially if they are hard frozen. Just throw them in the steamer and they will have a great consistency again!
As long as the tamales have been wrapped and frozen properly, both uncooked and cooked tamales can last up to 6 months in the freezer. As with most frozen food, the longer the time they are in the freezer, the more the quality of the food will deteriorate.
